Inward and outward electronic payments (sometimes referred to as telegraphic transfers) are a safe, convenient and cost-effective way of transferring money. You can use them for travel, gifts or payments into and out of Ghana. Electronic payments are secure as the transaction is authenticated and the money is transferred directly between banks.
You can also use a draft but this is less secure as it may be intercepted in the post and you will only be able to stop it subject to conditions.
If you receive a cheque from someone internationally (known as a clean bill of exchange) you can deposit it directly into your account and it will be exchanged at the current exchange rate. We will advice you of clearance requirements when you make the deposit.
The safest way to receive money from an international source is through an inward electronic payment. Drafts can be used but these are less safe.
